Shipping products. Growing engineers. Raising the bar.

Twelve years building web products, including enterprise search for European banking regulators. Now I lead the Tacit Knowledge team at Squirro.

What those three principles mean in practice

Shipping products

Decide in writing, then ship the whole thing.

I write the trade-offs down before I build, so the team can question the plan instead of just following it. Then I take the work to production: four years owning the search that runs inside European banking regulators, an internal product built end to end, and now organisational memory project at Squirro.

Growing engineers

Every engineer owns a product, not a ticket.

I lead a small team of product engineers, and each of them owns a slice end to end: the stakeholders, the scope, the code and what happens after it ships. My job is to hand over areas I used to own, set standards the team can run with on its own, and stay close enough to help without deciding for them.

Raising the bar

Quality is a system, not a mood.

Coding agents write a lot of my code now, and nobody can read all of it. So the bar cannot live in my attention. It lives in end-to-end tests that run on every change, coverage gates that block the merge, review on everything, and a shared sandboxed setup so the whole team works the same way. That is how I ship several pull requests a day to production without compromising quality.

Where the twelve years went

  1. 2014Freelance full stack: web apps for startups, MVP to production
  2. 2022Took over Squirro's search, used inside European banking regulators
  3. 2024Platform migration from Backbone to React: rewriting the shell piece by piece in a live product
  4. 2025Started a full rewrite of the legacy platform in React and shadcn/ui, free of the old codebase's constraints and built with coding agents
  5. 2026Leading the Tacit Knowledge team: organisational memory that can say what was learned, who decided it and on what evidence

What I am working on now

  • At Squirro, taking organisational memory from architecture to production.
  • Writing about what I learn along the way: AI, search and the craft of building for the web. Latest: Scaling coding agents past one machine
  • Building the software I wanted at home and could not find: small open-source apps, each one also a test of how far coding agents can carry a product. Open source
